Like, I don't like ice hockey at all unless I play it myself and well, the book is about a young boy playing the game in Canada no less and dammit, it's so good. Please email Mrs. When the class meets weekly throughout the year, students practice mini-battles using questions the students have created. Each Battle of the Books class meets for 20 minutes once a week to prepare for the battle. They play several rounds, working as a team of 5 or 6 students. The day begins with a meeting in the cafeteria and directions for the day. Each team earns points by answering questions about the books on the book list.

The more books read, the better the student will perform at the competition.Ī typical "Battle" is a full day tournament in which students are grouped in a team. Students will have plenty of time to read the books during the school year.

The school battle and the county battle will be held April/May of each year. Once the student writes the 10 questions, he or she may select another book. They may only check out 1 or 2 at a time.

Questions may be completed at home or during class.įW library has all the books for the students to check out. For each book read students will write 10 questions based on the book. They must read a minimum of 5 books from their list between November and the Fountain Woods Competition. Students must actually read the books, they cannot count books that they have only seen on a video or a movie.

Students must attain a specified reading level in order to participate.Ī student participates by reading from the book list provided by the county’s Battle of the Books. The purpose is simply to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with peers. Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students in grades 3-6.
